But just the Dutch version

What? That doesn't sound right, does it? Microsoft's Windows Genuine Advantage Tool designed as an anti-piracy measure will reveal the advantages of illegal software? Well, apparently it is true. Microsoft has taken the WGA mechanism through an overhauling. Back in November 2006, just one day before Windows Vista Enterprise was made available to Microsoft's Software Assurance customers via volume licensing, the Redmond Company also revamped the WGA Notifications tool.

Microsoft's WGA Notifications tool is an integer part of the company's anti-piracy counter-offensive and is designed to identify pirated copies of Windows, and inform the user and Microsoft of the issue.

With the new release of Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications, Microsoft has improved the tool's anti-piracy capabilities and has updated the installation and validation experience. However, Microsoft has also managed to introduce a few issues in the tool. Mostly due to the language barrier.

Recently, Microsoft has also revamped the diagnostic pages for the WGA and OGA, in concert with the expansion of the WGA Notifications to additional countries around the world. These modifications were introduced on February 19, 2007. The WGA Notifications is currently available in Arabic, Chinese (Hong Kong S.A.R.), Chinese Simplified, Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Indonesian, Thai, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.

But out of these versions, the only one that causes problems is the Dutch variant of WGA Notifications, Bink reports. Just take a look at the pictures included herein. The Dutch message reads: "Show me some advantages of using illegal software when I click finish," when it should say: "Show me some of the benefits of using genuine software when I click finish."
