Twice the sabers, twice the fun

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was launched as “the” action Star Wars game. With a revolutionary physics engine as the prime power behind it, Force Powers became the main aspect of the gameplay instead of the more widely used lightsaber combat. The game was definitely a success, even without the eye-candy, and, together with a good story and an enticing combat gameplay, it won its place in the Star Wars history books.

The game eventually came to the PC as well, ported by Aspyr, but it turned out to be a total mess. Optimization was a disaster, and so were the controls and combat, and, if you add to that the fact that the installation took 25GB of drive space, you would end up with a game that needed a die-hard fan of the concept to put up with. A patch was released, fixing some of the issues, but too late to change the first made impression.

But the title was obviously meant for the consoles, and the PC Sith Edition was an added bonus. As such, the developers decided that it was indeed worthy of a sequel, and a Force Unleashed 2 has been revealed at the Video Game Awards show. The game presents itself in every bit as exiting as the first one and, while the Force seems to be the same main weapon in the Apprentice's arsenal, dual lightsabers have been thrown into the cauldron, though this may be just a gimmick to visualize the fact that it's a number-two title, a sequel.

The trailer depicts our Force protege walking down a dark and narrow corridor, as it's bent and twisted behind his steps by his unsettled mind and the Force that he controls. The voices of both Master Yoda and Emperor Palpatine echo in his thoughts, both asking, demanding, him to abandon his current path and embrace the ending. As the world around is literally warped around him, peace is suddenly restored by Juno's voice. The corridor's doors are opened, light shines through and Starkiller finds himself in a giant arena.

As Starkiller enters the arena, a Rancor's corpse is thrown about like a rag doll as an even more gigantic fictional creature enters the scene. In a mix between some inFamous and God of War concept, the Force warrior lunges to fight the creature, present only so that it will emphasize just how glorious the game will be. As long as the title decides to focus even more on story and on the emotional, uncompromising path that the Force demands of its users, it could prove to be an even better one than the first.
