The actress who reached superstar status with the hit series 'Buffy, The Vampire Slayer', where she portrayed a misfit high school girl with superhuman powers, being the 'chosen one' for the killing of vampires and other demons, is to embark on another thriller/horror movie.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is not at all unfamiliar to the genre and has no setback when it comes to playing stereotype roles in such movies. Neither is she a stranger to Asian remakes, as she proves once again with 'Addicted', loosely inspired from the South Korean 'Jungdok' (2002).
Either way, she does more than an excellent job in all the films that she is being cast to, and as proof for that stand 'The Grudge', 'The Grudge 2' (both remakes) and 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' and 'Scream 2'. That's not to say that all her movies are either not original or scary movies, because she got heartfelt praises for her parts in 'Small Soldiers', 'Cruel Intentions' and 'Scooby-Doo', too.
'Addicted' is the mind-twisting story of a woman whose husband and brother-in-law are both involved in a very serious traffic accident. While the husband perishes in the car crash, her brother-in-law enters a long-lasting coma and, when he wakes from it, he is convinced that he is Sarah's real husband.
Unfortunately, Reuters reports that this is Sarah's last foray in the horror/thriller genre. The script for 'Addicted' was written by the 'Queen of the Damned' mastermind, Michael Petroni. The director's chair will be occupied by Joel Bergvall and Simon Sandquist.
Production for 'Addicted' will begin next month and it will be released in 2008.
