It possesses the standard sRGB color gamut, but with higher clarity and contrast

The IPS-NEO technology from Japan Display has just debuted, so it will take a few months to gain momentum. That means that, in the meantime, the contest between normal IPS and TN technology continues. ViewSonic has just added some fuel to it in fact.

The company has formally released the VX2880ml 28-inch monitor, which boasts a TN film panel (twisted nematic), but almost matches the viewing angles of the IPS technology in spite of that.

Admittedly, it doesn't attain the 178/178 degrees of In-Plane Switching, but the 170 and 160 marks are still quite high for this technology.

And since a 28-inch monitor is a lot less likely to be used for a movie night than an actual TV, the field of view should be more than enough. You're not bound to deliberately sit at an angle from it after all.

In addition to the better than decent viewing angles, the new ViewSonic monitor has 1.07 billion colors, which is the standard sRGB color gamut, best for typical home and office viewing conditions, but still good for darker environments too.

Moving on, the native resolution is of 3840 x 2160 pixels. Yes, this really is a 4K UHD monitor (Ultra-High Definition), despite the diagonal of under 30 inches. Not that they haven't cropped up before, but they are rare, which, we suppose, ViewSonic is quite happy to exploit.

Furthermore, the VX2880ml 28-inch Color Active Matrix TFT LCD monitor has a contrast ratio of 1,000:1, a response time of 5 ms, and a brightness of 300 cd/m2 (upper average, better than most IPS screens). The White LED (W-LED) backlighting is responsible for much of the color quality and high contrast (minimum lifespan of 30,000 hours).

Additionally, ViewSonic claims that its latest creation is flicker-free (without the use of PWM), capable of reducing the intensity of the blue light (for less eye fatigue), as well as compatible with most PCs, consoles and Mac Systems (DisplayPort x1, Mini DisplayPort x1, HDMI with MHL x1, daisy-chainable DisplayPort x 1). Finally, ViewSonic gave its VX2880ml 28-inch monitor a pair of 2W speakers.

All in all, the ViewSonic VX2880ml 28-inch UHD monitor, complete with the -5 to 20 degree adjustable stand, measures 620.9 x 341.3 mm / 24.44 x 13.43 inches. The price is of £359 / €399 / $537 and accounts for the product itself, plus an adapter, an MHL cable (can display phone content on the large screen), a mini DP cable, ViewSonic Wizard CD-ROM, a DP Cable, and the power cable.
