The Unknown, the leader of The Unknowns hacker collective, claims to have gained unauthorized access to the official website of the State of Rhode Island. “Just protect your site, nothing else to say. I will forgive you this time; no sensitive data will be displayed... The Unknowns are ready to help you if you want so, just contact us at: [email protected],” the hacker wrote.

To demonstrate his point, he leaked the names of all the databases, along with some data samples that include information on several companies.

The Unknowns first became known when they breached a number of high-profile websites. At the time, the list of targets included the car manufacturer Renault, Harvard University, French Ministry of Defense, European Space Agency, NASA’s Glen Research Center, the US Air Force, Bahrain’s Ministry of Defense, and the Thai Royal Navy.

In a statement released soon after the breaches, the hackers claimed that the purpose of their actions was to help the targets patch up the security holes that affected their websites.
