Final Windows DreamScene for Vista Ultimate available for download

The final release of Windows DreamScene for the Ultimate edition of Windows Vista is now available for download. Back in March, Microsoft introduced a Technical Preview of Windows DreamScene, promising that the next phase was going to be the full release. Six months later, and eight months after Windows Vista hit the shelves, users of the Ultimate SKU of the operating system got the DreamScene crumb. They only paid $399 for the high-end edition of Vista to have access to it, and in this sense, what the Ultimate Extras team delivered is nothing more than too little and too late.

"In early July, I expressed The Ultimate Team's intention to ship the remaining promised Ultimate Extras (DreamScene and the remaining Language Packs) by the end of the summer. Unfortunately summer never really came to Seattle this year-so we missed our cue. That being said, we are pleased to announce that Windows DreamScene is now available", revealed Barry Goffe, Director, Windows Vista Ultimate.

Via Windows DreamScene, users will be able to set full-motion videos as desktop backgrounds as opposite to the traditional static wallpapers. In the video fragment embedded at the bottom, you will be able to see not only the final installation of Windows DreamScene, but also the Content Pack Favorites offered along with Windows DreamScene. In total, Microsoft serves a standard set of four DreamScenes and additional four video wallpapers through the Content Pack.

But it's one step forward, 19 steps back for Microsoft. While having indeed released Windows DreamScene, the Ultimate Team failed to deliver the remaining Language Packs for Ultimate Users. As of now, the new date for the availability of the remaining 19 Language Packs is October 2007. In order to access Windows DreamScene you will have to check for new updates via Windows Updates from a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate. In the video below you can also see the glowing Windows Vista orb animated wallpaper, finally released by Microsoft.

"As most of you already know, Windows DreamScene transforms your desktop from a static wallpaper image into a full-motion video. In conjunction with Stardock, we're pleased to also offer a number of cool, new animated DreamScene desktops, including "Aurora". While we are excited about shipping DreamScene, the remaining 19 language packs are, unfortunately, not yet ready for release. Recently we realized that Ultimate customers who tried to install the language packs that shipped earlier this year were experiencing an unacceptably high number of failures during installation. We continue to make delivering the highest quality, most secure Extras our top priority, and we will not ship any Extra until it is absolutely ready", Goffe added.
