The US is launching a video campaign that will run on Pakistani television, in an attempt to counter beliefs that the US government was in any way involved in the making or spreading of the infamous trailer to “Innocence of Muslims.”

The movie was considered by Muslim groups as insulting to the prophet Mohammad and to the Muslim faith.

The US government is reportedly investing $70,000 (€55,000) in the video campaign. The public service announcements feature president Obama and secretary of state Hillary Clinton, saying how the US had no involvement in the creation of the insulting movie.

Street interviews of completely random, thin, well spoken, educated American citizens are also featured in the ads, stating that the movie does not represent their views.

90 million Urdu-speaking viewers are targeted by the messages, over seven television networks.
