Recent reports say that, this past year, the United States broke several solar power records. Specifically, the country is said to have gone into overdrive and to have found itself installing loads of new solar power capacity.

Eco Watch tells us that a record 1.4 GW of new solar photovoltaic energy were set in place in the United States over the course of the last three months of the year 2013 alone.

This might come as a surprise to many people, but some specialists had a feeling – I suppose calling it an educated guess makes more sense – that this would be the case.

Thus, Michael Barker, a senior analyst working with NPD Solarbuzz, says that, “Each year, the final quarter in the US results in a new quarterly record for solar PV installed.”

What's more, “The solar PV industry in the US is, on average, now installing more than one gigawatt of solar PV each quarter.”

Throughout the entire calendar year, the country added an impressive 4.2 GW of installations.

By the looks of it, this does not only represent a record for the country, but has also turned the United States into the world's second strongest solar market.

In case anyone was wondering, the Asia-Pacific region currently holds the top position in this respect.
