The UK is now home to a carton recycling plant that is expected to help the country improve on its ecological footprint by recycling about 40% of the beverage cartons used in this part of the world throughout the course of an entire year.

In sheer numbers, this means that the plant will turn some 1.25 million cartons into usable materials on a yearly basis, Business Green explains.

The recycling plant sits in Stainland, not far from Halifax, England. By the looks of it, it’s the first of its kind to have ever been built in the UK.

Packaging firm Sonoco Alcore and the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment UK are the ones to thank for the fact that this plant is now up and running.

Commenting on this project, Waste Minister Lord de Mauley stated as follows:

“Dealing with waste and recycling properly is not only good for the environment but can boost economic growth and create jobs.”

“This new recycling plant is an exciting development and I'm delighted to see businesses working together to improve our ability to recycle more here in the UK,” he added.
