A new report says that, between June 2012 – July 2013, the UK's offshore wind power capacity upped by about 80%.

Specifically, it grew from 1.86 GW to 3.3 GW. According to Business Green, this increase was due to the finalization of four major offshore wind projects.

“We've smashed another record in the past year with more offshore wind installed than ever before,” says Maria McCaffery with Renewable UK.

Specialists say that, according to evidence at hand, the offshore wind energy industry in the UK will continue to develop at an alert pace in the years to come.

As far as onshore wind power capacity is concerned, it appears that it too has significantly developed. Thus, onshore wind capacity experienced an increase of 25%, meaning that 1.29 GW new capacity was installed.

“The wind industry as a whole has proved that it has the tenacity to achieve substantial growth,” Maria McCaffery comments on the findings of this report.

“It's tangible proof of the dedication of thousands of Britons who are working tirelessly to generate electricity from a clean, home-grown source at a cost that we can control, increasing the UK's energy security,” the specialist goes on to argue.
