Only yesterday, the Silent Movie Theater in LA housed the third edition of the “Toxies” Awards.

It’s a mock ceremony meant to pin-point the most harmful substances that presently threaten both human communities around the world, and the wellbeing of the environment.

The winners of previous editions, lead and mercury, seem not to have lost their popularity as time went by, but other harmful substances are said to be gaining ground as various industries are left to carry on with their activities unhindered.

Given the fact that most of these dangerous chemical compounds are part and parcel of our day-to-day lives, let us hope that the “Toxies” Awards will help determine us pay more attention to what is going on in our proximity and urge us to take arms against pollution.
