There's almost an entire month left in the year, yet the 2010 year reviews have started pouring in. YouTube is having a roundup of the most popular videos and searches on the site and, though the data is only up to November, there are some pretty interesting, if not particularly surprising entries, things like "the bed intruder song" and "double rainbow."

"These lists of most-watched videos reflect the people, places and events that captured our collective attention and imagination throughout the year," YouTube announced.

"During 2010, you all watched more than 700 billion YouTube videos, and uploaded more than 13 million hours of video. We met a bunch of new faces, some new words and phrases entered our shared lexicon, and we celebrated as some new YouTube partners hit the big time with millions of views," it said in a blog post.

As in previous years, the top is split into major-label music videos and everything else. This is simply because bundling everything together would mean that the top ten would be exclusively music videos.

The entry at number 10 of the most-watched major label music videos, Lady Gaga's Telephone is still twice as popular as the number one entry in the 'regular' videos top.

The most watched video of the year on YouTube is one that made history, well, YouTube history, and really captures all that is great about the video site, the Bed Intruder Song.

It all started with a news report of a rather serious crime. While there was nothing special about the story itself, the over the top reactions of one of the protagonists, Antoine Dodson, quickly made it viral.

After the news story got quite a bit of attention it was picked up by the Auto-Tune the News team which already had a string of popular videos under their belt.

The resulting song proved incredibly popular, so much so that it ended up on iTunes and even made it in the Billboard charts.

Note that the original video was uploaded 'illegally.' While YouTube now has one of the best tools for fighting copyright infringement, many of the most popular videos on the site over the years were infringing, the reason why the site became so popular in the first place.

Another notable entry in the 2010's most watched videos top is the Old Spice commercial The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. The popularity of this video on YouTube sparked the best viral campaign to date, a marathon of short videos, shot back-to-back, in response to user comments and questions.

That said, for all the creativity and hard work that went into some of the top videos, and the complete lack of preparation involved in others - like the "double rainbow" video - they had nothing on music videos.

The top video of the year, overall, is Justin Bieber's Baby which has more than 400 million views. Moving down the list, all of the top 10 music videos had more views than any other video on YouTube this year.

There's a very good reason for this and it's not that music videos are somehow more popular than anything else on the planet. These videos rack up hundreds of millions of views because people listen to the songs on YouTube rather than buying them or using a dedicated streaming service.

It looks like the younger generation is growing up in a world where all the music they want is on YouTube. The music labels may not like it, they make much less money on YouTube than they would selling all those songs, and music streaming sites don't like it, but there doesn't seem to be that much they can do about it.
