Surprisingly, Zynga games are not on top of the list

Facebook has unveiled the list of top 10 most popular games on the site. Anyone following the scene would think that such a list would be a pointless exercise, since Zynga absolutely owns the chart when it comes to the number of people that use its games.

By active player numbers, Zynga would have the top five spots all for itself. Understandably then, Facebook didn't use the raw numbers when coming up with the list, rather it derived its own 'popularity' metric based on the number of users too, but mostly on "user satisfaction scores."

"This list was compiled by looking at the top games on Facebook with more than 100,000 monthly active users and giving priority to those games with the highest user satisfaction scores. The result is a list of the games that received the most user recommendations in 2011," Facebook explained.

This is why the most popular game of the year, as picked by Facebook, is Gardens of Time, created by Playdom. The second most popular is The Sims Social, from EA.

Zynga only gets the third spot with Cityville. Of course, considering that the game is consistently the most played on the site and has been so for a year now, Zynga probably isn't crying itself to sleep because it didn't get the top spot.

What's more, there are three more Zynga games in Facebook's top 10. No other game maker has more than one game in the list. Here's the full top 10 as determined by Facebook.
