PixelJunk developer Q-Games announced The Tomorrow Children, a brand new game coming exclusively to the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system from Sony.

The game was announced yesterday, at Sony's press conference event from Gamescom 2014. The Tomorrow Children is coming exclusively to the PS4, as part of a deal with Sony Worldwide Studios.

The upcoming title has all of humankind trapped, forced to live together in small underground colonies, and to work together to fight against giant spider-like beasts and something that looks like an old man, judging from the trailer.

The game takes place in an alternate future, after a failed Russian experiment from the 1960s, attempting to meld all human minds into one consciousness, destroys Earth.

After 90 years, humanity rebuilt their former civilization in The Void, based on Marxist ideals from the time of the experiment. The player will begin the journey as a proletariat class citizen, and will receive certain tasks that will allow them to rise through the ranks and earn ration coupons that can be exchanged for more powerful abilities.

Exploration will play a pretty big role in the upcoming game, as players will have to mine for new materials, but also defend towns against roaming monsters, by using crafted weapons, turrets and buildings, with the ultimate goal being to restore humankind to their former glory.

The void contains all sorts of strange things, from monsters and treasure to strange structures and symbolic objects from humanity's past.

The game also has a sort of loose multiplayer mode, where as you do things in the world, your projection will become briefly visible in other players' realities, and everything that you do to manipulate the world is shared with everyone else in the stage.

The team offers an example of this; for instance, if you find someone working in the dark, you can use your flashlight on them, and they will see your projection appear behind them, but if they fall into darkness for too long, they will lose coherency and be reset back to town, losing their recognition points.

Furthermore, if you run into anything that scares you, there is also a chance that you might lose coherency and have your projection reset.

During your forays into The Void, you will come across mysterious Matryoshka dolls, containing the raw DNA of the devastated population of Earth, and taking them to town will bring them back to life, and they'll be able to start working on improving the city.

"The human race will only survive if we cooperate, and as you do things your projection will become briefly visible in other player's realities. Everything you do to manipulate the world is shared with everyone else in each stage," Q-Games head Dylan Cuthbert shares on the PlayStation Blog.
