Apparently, she’s been planning this since January

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift hate each other, rumors online would have us believe. They were once good friends but had a falling out when Katy tried to hire backup dancers for her tour right from under Taylor, who, at the time, was also on tour. She could never get over this betrayal.

In some of her recent interviews, Taylor spoke candidly about one of her biggest foes, and even though she never named Katy, everyone assumed she could only be talking about her. So Katy, in return, promised to get even the next chance she got.

The Super Bowl 2015 performance

When Katy Perry was confirmed as the Halftime performer at the Super Bowl 2015, which took place over the weekend, rumors started making the rounds about how she would turn her gig into a giant Taylor Swift diss.

Last month, one particular report claimed that she had opted for a bit more subtlety and that she would incorporate a visual or lyrical jab at her frenemy, just to show her that she was the biggest and most successful performer in the world: she Katy, not Taylor, as Taylor seemed to think.

However, as the Super Bowl drew near and Katy continued to tease fans with promises of amazing surprises and a memorable show, people forgot about her supposed feud with Taylor.

The Super Bowl came, and Katy made her way on the stage in the middle of the field riding a mechanical golden lion (or lioness, we can’t be sure), while singing “Roar,” one of her most recent hits. Then she had dancing sharks and palm trees, and Lenny Kravitz came up on stage to rock out with her on “I Kissed a Girl,” and then Missy Elliott came in and stole Katy’s thunder completely, and then Katy soared over the audience on a flying comet shooting sparks.

With all this commotion, people completely forgot that she was supposed to be dissing Taylor and that she had (allegedly) planned for this for at least a couple of months in advance.

But Katy didn’t forget.

The diss was there, if you knew where to look

Katy’s entire Halftime performance is available in the video below: if you watch it from start to finish, chances are you’ll miss the Taylor Swift diss she made sure to incorporate, but it’s there.

Buzz on social media has it that the bathing suits she had her backup dancers wear during the “California Gurls” segment (yes, the one with the dancing sharks and the creeptastic looking volleyballs) were the diss to Swift.

Taylor loves nothing more than a good, retro bathing suit, preferably with polka dots, so by having her backup dancers dressed up like this, Katy was basically telling her that she would never be more than second fiddle to her, or something along those lines.

Of course, that’s just pure speculation. Moreover, if you really want to find something, you will most definitely find it, so whoever is seeing a diss in the choice of bathing suits could only be seeing what they want, a projection.

Do you see it now?
