Network TV represents the future of television as we know it, and this is the reason why an increasing number of companies join this still more or less "virgin" market. And one of the latest comers are the Japanese from Evergreen, who have just launched the JTV-100-F-PJ, a TV tuner that allows users to stream video through their network and access it directly through the web browser, as the Japanese website Impress informs us.

The device
is actually a cross between a normal TV tuner (which accepts both coaxial cable inputs and composite video sources) and a media server, as it is capable of broadcasting the recorded media directly through the network. Quite obviously, this can't be done directly, and the JTV-100-F-PJ also incorporates a hardware converter that transforms the video in MPEG4 format.

The device is pretty easy to setup, although getting it to stream video signal through the network might be a little tricky. Thus, first of all, users have to connect it to the AV equipment (set top box, DVD player, etc.) or the coaxial cable antenna to the JTV-100-F-PJ, and then install the necessary software on their computer. After that, the software connects automatically to the server, and all the users connected to the respective network will be able to view the video streams broadcast by the tuner.

The JTV-100-F-PJ from Evergreen can reach a maximum frame rate of around 30 fps, and can record video in three different resolutions: large (640x480), small (320x240) and mobile (160x120). The maximum attained bit rate is of around 1.8 Mbps, via the device's RJ-45 10/100Base-T network adapter, and uses a G.726 audio system.

The Tuner TV / media server from Evergreen will be available solely in Japan for now and will retail for around $163, which is a relatively small price to pay for a device that will allow users to stream their own video through the neighborhood network.
