Mixing furniture and multimedia technology has become something we get to see pretty often these days, whether we're talking about audio-enhanced furniture or audio gear that can also be used as furniture. One of the latest releases in this field is the TEAC ITB1000, codenamed Tall Boy, a very nifty iPod dock that will surely delight those looking for the most stylish iPod speakers around.

The TEAC Tall Boy is indeed tall, looking more like a pedestal for your Apple player; at the same time, this piece of audio gear comes with a very small footprint (33x30cm), which makes it easy to integrate in your room.

Thanks to this feature and the shiny black finish, the Tall Boy will be easy to accommodate in pretty much any décor, whether you're thinking about a modern or a conservative, traditional one. On the inside, the TEAC ITB1000 belies its outer appearance: despite the fact that you may think you're looking at an individual loudspeaker, this neat iPod dock is actually a full-feature 2.1 system. And we really mean “full-feature”, because under the dark grille you'll be glad to find a 3-way driver array running with dual soft-dome tweeters, two midrange drivers and a generous subwoofer.

While the HF and MF units will handle a 2 x 15W power, the bass unit adds an extra 36W, summing up to a hefty audio power to rock your home good. We were surprised to learn that the subwoofer could be turned on and off, and this says a lot about the versatile nature of this dock. You'll also get a full-function remote to control the iPod, video outputs and the built-in AM/FM radio.

The TEAC ITB1000 doubles as an alarm clock so you'll get more than you've probably expected from this towering iPod dock. Now, the announced price was 599 bucks: since the news came from the Australian branch of TEAC, there is a chance that the 599 were Australian Dollars, which would make the TEAC ITB1000 an instant must have for approx. $391!
