The Sultan of Brunei Married a Former TV3 Personality for the Second Time

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, 58, who was once the world's richest man, has wed former TV3 newsreader Azrinaz Mazhar Hakim, 26.

The Sultan of Brunei, Muda Hassanal Bolkiah, 58, who was once the world's richest man, has wed Azrinaz Mazhar Hakim, 26, a former TV3 personality.

Despite their 32-year age gap, the couple confessed that it was love at first sight.
Azrinaz Mazhar Hakim has officially become the Sultan's second wife after a small ceremony, which took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to the New Straits Times newspaper.

Altough the men of Brunei are allowed four wives, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah has one wife, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and he divorced his first second wife, former air hostess Mariam Abdul Aziz, two years ago.

The Sultan fell in love with the award winning journalist Azrinaz Mazhar Hakim when she went to Brunei two years ago on a news assignment, and from then on, "he kept watching her read the news on TV3," according to a close friend of the bride.

Muda Hassanal Bolkiah became the sultan of Brunei in 1967. He is known for having used the wealth generated by Brunei's enormous oil and gas reserves to develop social and educational programs, which are provided free to all of the country's citizens.
