If you haven’t overdosed on vampire stories just yet, here’s one that might interest you. On second thought, you might want to give this one a try even if you’re already sick and tired of these undead creatures, because this comes from Guillermo del Toro.

“The Strain” is a new show based on a series of novels by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Del Toro wrote the script for the TV series and also directed the pilot episode, hence the reason he’s getting so much credit in this new trailer.

Now, if we’re being specific, this isn’t so much a trailer as it’s a teaser: clocking in at only 30 seconds, the footage sets the premise of the story, that of a doctor who discovers a strain of virus that apparently kills and then revives its victims.

The only catch is that, when the victims do come back from the dead, they’re not human anymore but – you guessed it – vampires. There’s also a scene in which we hear that “He is here” and we see a hooded monster attack a man, so it could be that the story isn’t limited only to bloodsuckers but may include other creatures of the night as well.

“#TheStrain is a thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself,” reads a synopsis of the series.

“The Strain” premieres on July 13. Check out the trailer below and drop me a line in the comments section with your thoughts on it: would you tune in for this?
