Microsoft is planning to make the Start Menu a desktop-exclusive feature

The Start Menu could come back in Windows Threshold, with a report claiming that the tech giant is considering reintroducing this feature in the next full version of Windows.

But just like TechCrunch is reporting, the Start Menu might only return in the versions also featuring a desktop, as bringing such a feature on a touch-optimized device wouldn’t make much sense.

And the best example is Windows RT. Even though there are signs that Windows RT could be merged with Windows Phone in the next Windows release, the resulting mix would anyway be completely optimized for the touch and designed to power tablets.

As a result, keeping the Start Menu a desktop-exclusive feature is just a logical step towards making the Windows operating system the right choice for PCs, especially because so many users were disappointing with the shift towards touch options in Windows 8.
