Politics and sci-fi movies rarely go hand in hand, but if the sci-fi movie in question happens to be a big Hollywood blockbuster the likes of “Star Wars,” quite a few politicians are ready to make an exception.

Chancellor George Osborne has just announced that the new Star Wars spin-off is going to be filmed in Great Britain. The news was made public on Twitter and it bore the hashtag “#LongTermEconomicPlan.”

Probably few people are interested in the economic repercussions the movie is going to have on the country's economy. Instead, you're probably more interested in details about the production. The spin-off is said to be centered on one of the most iconic supporting characters in the series.

So far, the names that top that list are Han Solo and Boba Fett. Since yesterday we heard some rumors about Robert Pattinson being eyed for the role of the new Han Solo, it's very possible that this could be the story in the spin-off, but Boba Fett is still a strong contender.

For his part, the chancellor has issued a statement in which he highlights his role in this deal: “As Chancellor I have been determined that we back our brilliant creative industries which is why we have invested in skills and training as well as providing tax relief for films, high-end TV, animation, video games and regional theater,” he boasts.
