Movie and TV series-branded memorabilia and other sorts of merchandise are definitely making up very serious money. And just when we thought we were pretty close to having “seen them all,” here's one new piece to raise an eyebrow and open (again) the wallet: the solid titanium Star Trek Spork, issued in an already sold-out numbered edition. Now, the utility of a spork is a thing that's been largely discussed: it's a spoon that comes with three spikes and which can also be utilized as a fork, if you're not the pretentious kind of person; and if you happen to be hiking a lot, such a utensil might prove a very good gadget in your backpack.
Far from knowing whether Star Trek fans tend to hike more than the rest of the mortals or if interstelar hiking has been made possible, we can only figure out that true SciFi fans really loved this item, since the 1701 units from the first edition have already found new homes.
We must definitely admit that the Star Trek Titanium Spork looks very cool, with its cold, brushed titanium look, while the black imprints on its front and back make it a truly nifty piece of tableware for the fans. At the same time, this spork is an officially licensed Star Trek collectible item, and even comes with a special collectors' packaging. We are not that much into the “Mess Hall” black imprint on the front of the spork, as it looks a bit far out and we are getting the impression that everything is in too much order. After all, it may prove that some people aren't too keen to eat with labeled or personally numbered tableware or plates and everything alike.
Nevertheless, we hope that the 1701 lucky owners are happy with these; after all, spending $23 on a spork is not a thing you'd do everyday... There will definitely be a next issue of Star Trek sporks, but they will no longer be numbered and the price is expected to be lower. Check their page regularly to find out when they will be available; and maybe you should also check whether phasers are allowed in the mess hall.
