Perpetual Entertainment leaves to focus on its Perpetual Platform

What seems like bad news might actually be good news for the trekkers out there: Perpetual Entertainment in no longer developing the Star Trek MMO game. Although this wasn't expected, many problems related to this game's development have occurred recently.

According to warcry.com, even though Perpetual Entertainment (known as P2 Entertainment now) have called it quits regarding the game's development, it doesn't mean that the game has been canceled. The license and the game content - but not the code - have been transferred to another Bay Area development studio. Not having the code means that whoever is in charge now will have to spend much time with the game, so those who start to see similarities between this Star Trek MMO and Duke Nukem Forever might not be completely wrong.

But, as we said earlier, even though things are pretty blurry at the moment, Perpetual Entertainment's departure doesn't necessary mean bad news: the most important thing of all is that the ex-developers decided to turn the Star Trek title into a more casual-friendly one, upsetting some of the hardcore fans. So now things might be normal again.

As a little history lesson, if you are interested: in October, the developers placed on hold their MMO Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising to fully focus on Star Trek Online. A short while after this decision, reports revealed that Perpetual Entertainment had been bought by an unnamed media company - it was then when the devs decided to turn Star Trek into a more casual friendly title. After all these, in December, Perpetual was sued by its public relations firm, Kohnke Communications for breach of contract and fraud.

So now, with a new name, P2 Entertainment will continue on their Perpetual Platform, that is going to be used by BioWare for their unnamed MMO. On the other hand, we can only hope that Star Trek Online found some competent developers who will be able to finish the work and bring us a great game. And not a casual flick.
