In time, you've seen some pretty interesting watches in our "Gadget of the day" column, each and every one of them having
some feature that differentiated it from ordinary products. And that's exactly what can also be said about the 103 Blackbird manufactured by Urwerk: it's one unusual, yet extremely cool watch.
From both its design, which you can admire in the picture, and its name it's quite clear that the manufacturers were inspired by the famous SR-71 spy plane from Lockheed (also known as Blackbird) when developing this cool watch. The first eye-catcher is the unique system for showing the time, namely the satellites and orbital cross, which show the hours and the semicircle from the lower side, used for showing minutes.
103 Blackbird is manufactured using highly resistant materials, the case being made out of platinum and the interior elements out of titanium. Moreover, both the case and the internal elements are coated in a black PE-CVD, or Plasma Enhanced-Chemical Vapor Deposition, which makes the watch much more attractive, as well as much more resistant to scratches.
The watch developed by Urwerk has relatively small dimensions (50mm x 36mm x 13.5mm), a manual wind system and a power reserve of 43 hours. Its only problem will be its price (unknown, for now, but certainly quite high, since only 10 of these things will be manufactured, according to Urwerk), but seeing how cool it is, this watch's worth every penny.
