To celebrate their 20th anniversary this year, the Spice Girls were supposed to have a reunion, something which hasn't materialized in the end, but there are still hopes the girls will be coming back together on stage, as Melanie Chisholm has revealed.

Speaking as the ambassador for the P&G and Asda's Clean Water Campaign, Mel C pointed out that the reunion was going to happen, but not this year as everyone thought. The confusion, she said, was generated by the fact that the girl band had indeed formed in 1994, but their first single wasn't released until 1996.

“It's funny isn't it because people are saying it's the 20 year anniversary of The Spice Girls, and we did get together in '94, but Wannabe wasn't released until '96 so we don't really see it until '96,” Melanie C confirmed.

She also gave away some of the preparation for that fateful event by saying, “And you might see a few of us having a little dance about on stage, no plans, but we'll see what we can do for you.”

This comes to disprove another former member of the band, Victoria Beckham, who, in a recent interview with a fashion magazine, slammed the possibility of the group getting back together. Her motivation was that she had moved past her musical career.

Victoria, who was known as Posh Spice during her “Girl Power” days, has since moved on to an aspiring career in fashion design, after years of living in the United States and engaging in reality TV as well as a wide range of other projects.

The Spice Girl's last reunion was for the 2012 London Olympics, when the girls took the stage to perform a medley of their most famous hits, and bring excitement to fans.

“That was a perfect time to say, ‘That's great. Thank you to everybody, but no more.’ Sometimes you've got to know when it's time to leave the party,” Victoria said about the experience.

But in the minds of their fans, their London Olympics reunion only proved that a new one was possible if the girls were given a big enough incentive, and millions demanded that they reinstate the band and record new material.

It has to be said that, apart from Victoria, all other members of the band, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Melanie B, have expressed their wish to bring back the band at one point or another.
