The Spice Girls kicked-off their reunion world tour in Canada last night, and boy, did they pull out all the stops! The band made their stage debut in front of about 15,000 fans at the General Motors Place in Vancouver, Canada. The performance lasted no less than two hours and the band went through 22 tracks, including all their nine UK number one singles. Which was definitely a good thing to do, since there were many people out there wondering whether the Girls were going to lip-synch again. In which case, a greater number of songs was going to compensate for the miming. Luckily, the girs are said to have sung live, and even if they didn't - well, you can't have it all in one single concert, right?

The members of the band performed together for the first time since Geri infamously quit in May 1998, as the girls were going through their first-ever world tour. The concert began with the band singing 'Spice Up Your Life' and making a spectacular entrance dancing on some raised platforms. The show comprised no less than eight costume changes, with the Girls going for kinky, leather-clad looks, then switching in turn to either more classical or sparkly outfits.

They ended the show with their 1996 debut single 'Wannabe' before singing 'Spice Up Your Life' again. And I have to admit it, they looked gorgeous - a far cry from the bubbly, eye-watering costumes that made them famous a decade ago. Only trouble is, I think that their attitude is a bit over-done - think Posh in particular - and at points they may even look unnatural and artificial.

The crowd enjoyed the fact the the Girls sang all their classics, including 'Stop', 'Who Do You Think You Are' and 'Say You'll Be There'. During the show Mel B, Mel C, Geri and Emma took the stage to perform one of their solo hits, released separately from the Spice discography. By my calculations, that's only four Spice Girls - oh, that's right, I forgot Victoria is the only member not to have had a UK number one single on her own. Posh used her solo slot to walk along the stage as if she were on a catwalk - thus adding to my previous impression that she's less of a singer and more of a catwalk wannabe - no pun intended.

To be honest, Victoria has indeed admitted to being nervous about what critics would make of the show. She said: "Luck doesn't matter. People will still say we're s**t anyway." The girls were watched by Victoria's hubby David, who had reportedly been booted off and forbidden to attend for fear his presence would make Victoria even more nervous. Guess it all worked out in the end. The girls are set to continue their tour in San Jose, Las Vegas and Los Angeles before starting a 17-date stint at London's O2 arena on December 15th. Good luck to them - and stay tuned as we bring you all the news on the band's future performances.
