The war between Blue Security and the spammers seems to have ended in favor of the latter.
One of the
spammers, known as "PharmaMaster", launched a devastating attack against Blue Security, their users and other sites. Because of the virtual assault, the company was forced to announce its defeat.
In an interview for Wired News, Blue Security's CEO, Eran Reshef, said that the Israel-based company was closing its service Wednesday since he did not want to be responsible for an ever-escalating war that could bring down Internet service providers and websites around the world.
It is unclear whether Eran Reshef took this decision because the spammers were smarter or if indeed, the company didn't want to be responsible for the damages suffered by other companies.
"Our community would very much like us to continue on the fight against spam, and our community has grown over the last week. But at the end of the day if we continue doing so, within a few days, major websites will go down. I don't feel that this is something I can be responsible for," Eran Reshef told
