Like it or not, the Chrome "hot dog" menu is coming sooner than you thought. It was initially introduced in the Chromium 23 daily builds.

The expectation was that the change would trickle down to Chrome 23, when it hit the dev channel, and then make its way to the beta channel six weeks after that, then, six further on, land in the stable channel.

But Google is not waiting any longer and the most recent Chrome 22 dev builds come with the soon-to-become infamous "hot dog" menu button, replacing the well-known wrench icon that has been around since Chrome first showed up in beta, four years ago.

Chrome 22 is moments away from landing in the beta channel, meaning that it will make its way to over 300 million people within six weeks or so. We'll have to wait and see how users react to the change, but gut feeling and previous experience says they won't like it.
