Play Station 3's situation is still uncertain, but Sony has definitely a winner when it comes to games.

The PSP (Play Station Portable) console has sold 185,000 units in only three days after it was launched, leaving Nintendo's 87,000 unit record in the dust.

The Chart Track company, specialized in market studies and analyses, which has made the results public, said that the success of the PSP games was equally big. Together with the PSP, Sony also offered 24 gaming titles, 20 of these being already in the Top 40 of the bestselling titles.

PSP's success was actually foreseeable, considering the interest for this console in Europe, immediately after it was launched in the US. Sony was actually forced to take legal measures against those who had started to import PSPs from Japan and the US in order to resell them in the UK.

PSP's success is even more impressive if we take into consideration that the console is not cheap, compared to the competitors. A PSP costs 249 Euros, while a Nintendo DS is priced at 145 Euros.

In the US, the number of sold PSP units has reached 500,000 units in just two days. Nintendo needed two weeks to reach the same amount.

Sony is hoping that not only gamers will be interested in the PSP, the device being also suitable for regular users, who can watch movies or listen to music.
