Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is now in rehab, battling an addiction for prescription medicine, which he says he's been taking because he's exhausted. While rumors about the true nature of his addiction continue to make the rounds, there's also a lot of talk about how this will affect production.

Only a couple of days ago, MTV announced that a new season of the controversial but highly popular reality show would be made, and that it would include all of its original cast members.

This means Snooki too, who is now pregnant with her first child, and The Situation, currently battling addiction.

TMZ points out how The Situation's return to the show will certainly pose a lot of issues for the network, especially since he's also believed to be getting some help for alcohol abuse as well.

If there's one thing that fans know only too well, that's that Jersey Shore and alcohol can't exist apart, the celebrity e-zine points out.

“The Situation is in rehab not just for prescription drugs, but also for alcohol, TMZ has learned, and this turn of events could pose big problems for next season's Jersey Shore,” the e-zine writes.

“Sources involved in the situation (sorry) tell us the Situation went through detox at a facility before he checked into Cirque Lodge in Utah, and the detox involved alcohol,” the same report says.

He will probably be out in a short while, and well into sobriety by the time production on the new season of the show kicks off this summer.

This begs the question of how producers will handle the whole thing – and whether they will somehow “force” The Situation to drink alcohol.

“The Situation and alcohol have been tied at the hip for 5 seasons. If the show allows The Situation to fall off the wagon to make the show better in season 6, they will look like crass enablers. If they don't let him drink, there's a good chance they will lose viewers,” TMZ says, painting a fair picture of the dilemma.

However, there's also a chance – slight as it might be – that The Situation won't be featured on season 6, even though he's already been tweeting about how he's been hitting the gym to look his best for when he returns in front of the camera in a few months' time.
