Mike Sorrentino, also known as “The Situation” on MTV's hit reality series Jersey Shore, is currently in rehab, having admitted himself voluntarily a few weeks back. In a statement on his official blog, The Situation explains what his problems are.

However, he's only doing it because he wants fans of the show to know that they shouldn't believe the rumors that started to emerge online the other day.

As we also informed you, news broke that he'd gone to rehab for an alleged substance abuse problem, most likely cocaine.

Alcohol was also believed to have been an issue.

Not really so, The Situation says in a statement released for his official page: he's addicted to prescription medicine that he's been taking to treat exhaustion, he says.

“I want to set the record straight. I have voluntarily taken steps to get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion,” Mike says.

“I have spent the past several weeks getting treatment for this problem and recuperating from my work and appearance schedule. I appreciate my fans support and love you guys,” he adds.

Before he released the statement, he had made sure his fans knew that it wasn't true that he was addicted to cocaine, by tweeting just “Don't believe everything you read or hear.”

Earlier, he had tried to make it sound as if he didn't have a problem at all, writing on the same social networking website that he was “Getting in amazing shape for season 6!”

MTV has just recently renewed the controversial reality series for another season, despite saying a while back that it would end with season 5.

One question that remains now is how producers will work around Snooki's pregnancy and The Situation's recent issues, since the show is mostly about the gang of guidos and guidettes hanging out together, getting drunk and partying well into the early hours of the morning.
