The Playfish division of Electronic Arts has announced that its The Sims Social game, available via Facebook, has received a significant upgrade in the form of Careers, a major addition that changes the way players deal with the work life of their characters.

Careers are unlocked at level seven and allow the various characters to become a Rock Star, a Celebrity Chef or an Art Master.

Gamers need to choose one and then perform series of tasks in order to advance in their chosen profession.

As a Career progresses gamers will be rewarded with both Simoleons and with Career Points as they try to become a Web Sensation, a Cooking Show Contestant or a Street Art Sensation.

The developers say that there are more than 90 activities, tasks, quests and achievements for the Career part of The Sims Social.

The new mechanics also give players more opportunities to compete and compare with their friends.
