Video game publisher Electronic Arts has announced that it is preparing a new expansion for The Sims 3, called Showtime, which will allow gamers to try out a number of new careers while also getting a rich social layer that allows them to stay connected with in-game friends.

The new careers are all entertainment related and include being an acrobat, a singer, a star DJ or a magician, trying to brighten the lives of fellow Sims with the new activities and special skills.

Players also get a new game world, called Starlight Shores, to explore, with new entertainment venues to enjoy and a number of new objects to develop Sims talents.

The new entertainment careers are liked to new custom stage building and to a new feature called SimPort that allows Sims from the games of friends to be imported in order to perform in your own world.

The Sims 3 will also get news feeds and live update features that allow players to keep connected with their social circle without leaving the game.

Showtime will be launched during March 2012.
