The Sims 3 appears to be on track to getting the same glut of expansions as its predecessor in the series. The EA Play Label has announced that it is developing and plans to release a new add-on, called Ambitions, which is scheduled to be launched for the PC in June 2010. The new content will require the initial Sims 3 to be installed and will focus on offering more options for the career paths of the in-game characters.

In the previous Sims titles, the characters controlled by the player were simply leaving for work at a predetermined time only to return about eight hours later. There were certain actions, which could influence how work went and how many chances there were for a promotion, but direct control was not an option.

With The Sims 3 Ambitions, players will be able to directly control career-minded Sims, choosing from a variety of new jobs that can be taken on. Players can be firefighters, as shown in the attached screenshot, can save lives as a doctor or go ghost hunting around the neighborhood.

There are also options to be evil, experimenting on patients and smashing everything in sight with the firefighter axe. The actions performed on the job will also affect how a Sim is seen by their friends and their neighbors and can even influence the development of their surroundings.

Scott Evans, the man who is general manager of The Sims Studio at Electronic Arts, said that “The variety of careers to choose from is unmatched and we’ve never given players the opportunity to follow their Sims to work and affect their actions on the job. The Sims 3 Ambitions changes that. Players’ actions at work now directly affect their lives, community and neighbours and become an extremely important part of how the game is played.”
