A brand new installment in the huge franchise is coming from EA and Maxis

Electronic Arts and Maxis have officially confirmed The Sims 4 and revealed that the new game is set to appear on PC and Mac in 2014.

The Sims franchise has spawned a huge number of installments, expansions, spinoffs, and downloadable content, each quickly devoured by the legions of fans from around the world.

Now, Electronic Arts has confirmed that its The Sims Studios is working on The Sims 4, the next installment in the huge franchise.

According to the publisher's blog, "The Sims franchise is fueled by the passion and creativity of its millions of fans around the world. Their continued devotion to the franchise ignites the fire of creativity of the team at The Sims Studio, driving them to continually improve and innovate on one of the world’s most successful simulation game that has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide."

The Sims 4 is set to appear in 2014 for PC and Mac, presumably via EA's Origin service. More details will be shared soon.
