After a pretty heated controversy that happened at launch for The Sims 4, developer Maxis confirms that swimming pools are finally available inside the game as part of a free update that includes many bug fixes and improvements.

The Sims 4 came out at the beginning of September and delivered a major overhaul of the long-running series made by Maxis, with all-new mechanics replacing traditional ones, from the streamlined Create A Sim to the simpler build mode and much more.

Even if the game was filled with plenty of things to do and the virtual Sims interacted in all sorts of crazy ways, veteran fans were still a bit upset over the lack of certain features, from swimming pools to the toddler growing up stage and more.

Swimming pools are finally available in The Sims 4

Now, after listening to all the feedback from fans, developer Maxis confirms that a new free update is available for The Sims 4 that finally adds swimming pools.

According to the official announcement, the pools benefit from the many enhancements made by Maxis to the actual game, so building them using the actual build mode is simpler and they can be customized in a variety of ways. These include making them in a diagonal shape or building them not just on the ground floor but also on the roof or on intermediate floors.

Different swimwear and interactions are also available

Besides actually allowing players to build swimming pools, the update also includes swimwear that can be customized in Create A Sim, as well different interactions for the virtual Sims.

"Check out the new line of swimwear in Create A Sim! You can mix and match swimwear pieces or try out the Swimwear Styled Looks for today’s hottest trends. Now your Sims can really dress the part before taking a dip," Maxis explains.

"Your Sims don’t have to swim, they can sit along the pool ledge and chat with other Sims who are in the pool or snuggle close to a loved one. Spectators beware – they could be subject to some splashing from the other Sims in the pool. Watch out for that angry Sim who is cooling his temper by swimming around."

Of course, pools wouldn't be complete without the option of drowning your Sims inside them, so the update also brings such a feature. The resulting ghosts will appear with new fears of water.
