Electronic Arts has announced that the long awaited Sims 3 would be released on June 2, 2009, following the
delay from its original date in February. The game is set to arrive on the PC, the Mac, the iPhone, the iPod Touch and other mobile phones.
The Sims 3 will be one of the most important releases for Electronic Arts in 2009 and the company probably thought that a summer launch would be more visible and would attract gamers just as they get interested again in new releases after finally getting through their Christmas 2008 backlogs. The title is set to represent a leap in what the Sims series offered gamers, as it will allow players to experience the entire life of their creations.
Players will be able to make characters that will be designed by five traits that can range from “romantic” to “evil,” developing a very wide array of possible personalities. The goals you set for the characters will also influence their behavior, while players will be able to choose any life style they are interested in, from rock star to hobo.
Russell Arons, who is the vice president of Marketing at
Electronic Arts, commented that “The June launch combined with the break-through game the team is building gives us the perfect runway to create awareness for The Sims 3. The Sims 3 will be the original IP summer blockbuster of 2009 as we build off the success of the best-selling PC franchise of all time to create awareness with both loyal Sims fans and new players.”
The first title in the Sims series was launched at the beginning of 2000 and since then the two main games and the dozens of add ons available have sold more than 100 million copies all over the world.
Electronic Arts is surely hoping to keep the momentum with the summer release of Sims 3.
