Ever since David Letterman announced that he was retiring from television last week on his show, more people have come out to sing his praises. Among those who decided that Letterman's leaving was an event worth honoring somehow were the creators of “The Simpsons.”

The producers of the long-running animation series paid tribute to the irascible talk-show host by doing the classic couch skit, only this time with a cartoon version of Letterman who is his old grumpy self. The couch gag has been a favorite for a long time and Simpson's fans have seen a lot of versions over the years.

This time, the family gets into a couple of adventures as they try to make their way to the Ed Sullivan Theater where Letterman's show is being taped. Finally, with the help of a few head-butts courtesy of Homer, they manage to get in the studio, where David is none too pleased to see them.

The host doesn't seem impressed by the fact that the family was flown over just to come in and rush on the couch, before being sent off by the studio's band with a musical piece.

At the end of the clip, the producers add a heartfelt message that reads, “We'll miss you, Dave.” Apart from the Simpsons, other people in television have shown their support, among them Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon, both fellow talk-show hosts themselves.
