A new dangerous spam campaign was discovered on the Internet by the security company Sophos that sustains the users are tricked by Homer Simpson to reveal a valid email address that is then often used in other spam attacks. In fact, the unauthorized emails are concerning the upcoming "The Simpsons Movie" that is scheduled to be released this month. "Take our survey and get a P0 Visa gift card with participation in program. Will you go see the movie The Simpsons? Take our short survey now," the spam message says. Once a user clicks on the image, he is instantly redirected to a webpage requiring a valid email address, Sophos reports.

"You would be as crazy as Krusty the Clown to enter an email address on that page," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. "Not only are your chances of receiving a gift less than zero, but you are delivering a valid email address to a spammer on a platter. Lists of living breathing email addresses are what keeps the spam industry afloat - by confirming your contact address you are helping the spammers and increasing your chances of being deluged by junk email."

This spamming campaign is somehow innocent because it does nothing more than requiring a valid email address that will be probably used in other spam attempts. However, your email account might be seriously harmed by the unsolicited traffic so avoid clicking on untrusted messages containing The Simpsons surveys.

As the Sophos representative said, it seems like it tends to become like a rule to discover new spamming campaigns with every new big movie launched to the cinemas. "Last month Sophos discovered a worm that infected USB drives claiming that in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" the eponymous teen wizard would die, and in May, we saw a threat spammed out that pretended to be a trailer for the latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie," the Sophos official wrote.
