The Philips 580 is just another one of those mobile phones that look strikingly like other more popular phones, in this case the Motorola RAZR, the mobile phone that might be responsible for the mobile phone manufacturer's recent efforts of producing very slim handhelds.

The keyboard looks exactly like the one you would find in RAZR phones, but while it tends to look like the RAZR, Philips 580 is all about the looks and not at all about the features. The handheld measures 93.3x45.6x16.4 mm comparing to the RAZR's 98 x 53 x 13.9 mm and weighs just as much, 96 grams.

According to Philips, the 580 has an intuitive menu that will make this handheld very easy to use. The 580 allows the user to send SMS as well as Concatenated SMS (Long SMS) and the phone can be personalized by setting polyphonic ringtones, the only supported file format being MIDI.

Philips 580 targets the users who are not looking for a complicated or feature packed phone, preferring simplicity and usability over a built-in camera or MP3 support. The most interesting feature it sports is the built-in FM Radio that will allow the user to listen to music and it also comes equipped with a 65k color 128 x 160 pixel display. The Philips 580 also includes the usual basic features like calculator, calendar, alarm clock, timer, currency converter, stopwatch, 1Mb user memory and T9 input. There is no information regarding the price or availability of the Philips 580 at this time, but it will most likely be an affordable handheld.
