Many people, at least once in their lifetime, pulled their hard-disk out of their computer and took it for a little ride (to get the latest freeware programs from their friends, of course). And then, the worst case scenario occurred, and they've dropped it (on the floor, pavement, whatever). Some of the people who went through such a misadventure were lucky, and the device came out without a scratch, but for many others, the moment has been extremely unpleasant. And that's exactly why LaCie, a company known for its "wacky" inventions in data storage solution, has developed LaCie Rugged Hard Drive.

An exclusive creation of world-renowned designer Neil Poulton, this portable hard-disk offers, besides the generous storage space (120 GB) and high-speed connectivity (FireWire 800 and 400, as well as USB 2.0), a very important safety element. Thus, the storage unit is fitted with a unique scratch-protected aluminum shell and shock-resistant rubber bumper. All of these make LaCie's device a very safe storage solution, especially since, according to the technical specifications, you can drop it from as high as 90 centimeters without it suffering any kind of damage. Another plus for this device (from the portability point of view) are its dimensions, of 90 x 25 x 145 mm, the whole unit weighing just 250 grams.

Here are some of the product's most important technical specifications:

Interface: 1x FireWire 800 (9-pin) port; 1x FireWire 400 (6-pin) port; 1x mini USB 2.0 port Rotational Speed (rpm) : 5400 Interface Transfer Rate : FireWire 800: up to 800Mbits/s (100MB/s); FireWire 400: up to 400Mbits/s (50MB/s); Hi-Speed USB 2.0: up to 480Mbits/s (60MB/s) Max Sustained Transfer Rate : FireWire 800: 40-50MB/s; FireWire 400: 30-40MB/s; Hi-Speed USB 2.0: 30MB/s; Average Seek Time (Write) :
