The Saddest Story of the Year

- The Spears circus has come to town... again

By: Monica Gaza, Entertainment News Editor

I have been thinking about writing this article ever since I arrived at the office this morning. I must confess that, to my shame, I'm one of those people who twist and turn things in the back of their head without realizing it, and all of a sudden come up with a conclusion, or a thought, or an idea. In this case – we're talking about Jamie Lynn Spears again – I just realized that things were a lot more complicated than I originally assumed they were, and that there's one person in this whole story that we haven't quite considered so far, despite her being in our faces the whole time: the Spears sisters' mother, Lynne.

Just what is Lynne's role in this whole mess, I wonder? And how come she did such a bad job at bringing up her famous daughters? I mean, yes, I know what you're going to say – both Britney and Jamie Lynn have made their own choices and were "good little angels" right until – well, they weren't anymore. But what caused the break? I suppose on the one hand we could put it all down to raging hormones, too much media attention and a possible teenage desire to rebel.

But then again – unprotected sex is not something you do just to annoy your mum, especially if you're aware that you might get seriously sick as a result (not to mention the possibility to get pregnant). The stress of the past sentence stays on "IF". IF Jamie Lynn knew, IF she gave a damn, IF her mother explained things clearly enough.

Then there's the whole issue of Jamie Lynn following in Britney's footsteps. What is it with these two ladies and unprotected sex? Star magazine went on record a few months ago to quote a friend of Britney's saying that the popwreck "picks up guys all over the place. She never keeps condoms in the house and I wouldn't be surprised if she had unprotected sex".

I mean, one of your girls has become the butt of all media jokes, little more than a circus freak parading her weave and oh-too-short skirts all over the place; wouldn't it be the next logical step to make sure your other (fertile) daughter doesn't follow in her footsteps? Apparently no – so here I am asking myself whether this new Spears show could have been avoided – or whether it's in the family genes to keep yourself in the news at all costs. It may very well be – after all, no one knows for sure.
