World-famous audio equipment manufacturer Sennheiser has showcased its latest in the field of high-end, audiophile, reference-grade headphones, the HD 800. Building on the legendary craftsmanship and audio research, the new Sennheiser headset promises a top-grade listening with whatever goes through your mind: TV, SACDs, Blu-Ray discs, vinyl records, and so on. In fact, these headphones are a full step ahead of everything that has come out from Sennheiser's labs recently, and this is one feature that's easy to spot a mile away.

One of the nicest things about this new member of the HD series is the fact that Sennheiser has dropped the classic and not-that-fashionable black plastic, and went for the more noble silver casing.

The Sennheiser HD 800 has been engineered with fine materials available, and has also received a completely new, redesigned look, with a more nuanced futuristic aspect, probably aimed at the younger customers. These headphones come with some of the biggest dynamic drivers ever used in the industry (the producer still hasn't revealed the exact dimensions) loaded in an open back architecture designed to eliminate as much unnecessary vibrations as possible. The transducers sport a ring-design, and are creating a very nature-like sound wave, simulating the exact way sound travels in reality.

While the ear pads are covered in luxurious Japanese Alcantara leather, they also exert just a small amount of pressure on the listener's head. At the same time, the ears will be fully covered, to create an immersive acoustic experience. With a 5 Hz- 51 kHz response, 300 Ohms impedance and 102 dB SPL, the Sennheiser HD 800 are quite promising premium audiophile items.

They come with a special oxygen-free cable with Kevlar and Teflon insulation, to deliver both exceptional signal transfer with no alterations and a prolonged life time for your investment. And, by all means, we're talking about investing in your passion for high-end music listening, as the Sennheiser HD 800 will be available for around $1,400.
