Restlessly trying to lure mobile users from around the world, HTC has gone official with its Touch HD Pocket PC, a multimedia monster that brings more features than the Touch Diamond and even more than most of the handsets currently on the market.

The strong points of the new Touch-series handset are: a 3.8 inch TFT touchscreen display with a Wide-VGA (WVGA) resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, a 5 Megapixel auto focus camera (no flash unfortunately), a 3.5mm audio jack, quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS and EDGE, dual-band HSDPA connectivity (900 / 2100 MHz) for data transfer speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, HTC TouchFLO 3D interface to cover Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1, Wi-Fi, GPS, A-GPS and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR. The HD relies on a 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM720 processor and further features 512 MB of Flash memory, 288 MB of RAM and a slot for microSD or microSDHC cards.

Although it's quite slim (115 x 62.8 x 12 millimeters), the Touch HD is not on the lightweight side, weighing 146.5 grams. Its 1350 mAh should be able to last up to 390 minutes in talk-time mode or up to 450 hours in stand-by.

"Today, Widescreen TV, Internet and video have become the standard so there is no reason to compromise when you leave the house," says Peter Chou, president and chief executive officer at HTC. "The Touch HD delivers that uncompromising multimedia and Internet experience. We are living in a time where the concept of entertainment has radically changed. The Internet is so much more than just email and our customers expect to be able to access the Internet and high quality multimedia content no matter where they are in the world."

The price of HTC Touch HD is currently not known, but we'll probably find it out close to its release, which should take place in the last quarter of 2008, first via major European carriers.
