The QuestoDesign Abacus Watches: No Hands, No Display, Can Still Tell the Time

Don't you love wearing one of those strange-looking watches that tells the time in a very unusual manner, while attracting everyone's attention in the process? Well, it seems that it is the case with quite a lot of people around the world, as an increasingly higher number of manufacturers come up with all sorts of strange items that work in the strangest and most "mysterious" possible manners.
And that's exactly the case with the Abacus line of watches presented by the people at QuestoDesign, as these things do not have any apparent means of informing the users regarding the current time, while, quite surprisingly, managing to do exactly so.

Created by German designer Roy Schafer and manufactured in Germany by the Erich Lacher Watch Factory, Pforzheim, these things combine very accurate timekeeping with an original design and method of operation. Thus, the time is indicated by a very small metal ball placed on the face of the watch, which moves freely, depending on the wearer's movements. Nevertheless, whenever the watch is kept in a horizontal position, the ball moves "by magic" to the position that indicates the exact hour.

This is possible due to the fact that the device incorporates a high-grade quartz movement system, which, with the help of some magnets, moves the ball across the face of the watch. The face is quite resistant, too, since it's manufactured either from mineral or sapphire glass. Moreover, the device sports a stainless steel case, a high-quality leather strap and is also water resistant to a depth of 30 meters.

The watches from QuestoDesign's Abacus series retail for around 150 - 230 US dollars (depending on the model), which is actually quite an OK price to pay for some devices that will certainly draw the other people's attention (even if they're a bit difficult to use).
