If you liked “Sinister,” you’ll probably love “The Purge” as well. Ethan Hawke partners up with producer Jason Blum once more for a film that plays out like a combination of home invasion thriller and apocalyptic scenario with a deeply unsettling twist.

America has become again a peaceful, thriving country but only because, for one night every year, all laws and regulations are suspended.

That is the night when crime becomes legal and everyone is free to do whatever they like, no matter how violent, to find release. Society self-regulates itself afterwards.

Hawke plays a wealthy family man. Unlike everybody else, they don’t go out on The Purge to kill, plunder and cause mayhem but only because they’re safer inside their house, which is built like a fortress.

So what happens when the fortress is breached by an unwelcome guest? Check it out in the video above, which is the first official trailer.

If you like what you see, keep an eye out for the film this May, when it drops in theaters.
