As time goes by, more and more crazy designs make their way to the production line. Some of them are interesting, some are idiotic and some are just jaw-dropping.
These eccentric speakers fall in the last category. Meet the DMT-100 from the Proclaim Audioworks. They look like the speakers aliens would use to brainwash puny humans and take them to their ship for experiments.
As David Ponce at OhGizmo observes, "they look like three eyes stacked atop one another". And that's not all. The speakers themselves
are supported by metallic joints, which allow users to rotate the units to suit their audiophile desires.
As all speaker manufacturers say, this design ensures a superior sound quality compared to the competition's. For a better understanding of the concept, here's a quote from the Proclaim Audioworks site.
"Each driver is independently mounted in a spherical enclosure cast from proprietary high density laminate. Driver Manipulation Technology provides the listener with an incomparable opportunity to orient all six transducers in fashions can dramatically change the system's acoustic characteristics. The result is the possibility of acoustically perfect phase, balance and placement in any room.
The enclosures are built using two opposing layers of fiberglass which are filled with a proprietary sand mixture which is then vibrated to a densely packed consistency. The result is a heavy, dead, non resonating enclosure that lets the driver unit itself do all the talking and not the surrounding surface."
So there you have it, yet another crazy, expensive as hell (around $26,000) set of speakers that will give your crib a distinct feeling. However, let's not forget
the Muon speakers (priced at $140,000) and of course, the
$1 million Grand Enigma.
