iDevices introduces Switch, a HomeKit-enabled plug

At CES 2015, accessory makers are pulling out the big guns. iDevices wants to be the one of the first to take full advantage of the new HomeKit framework opened by Apple to developers, and it’s making the most of it using Siri integration.

The iDevices Switch is quite possibly the most convenient accessory ever to be made for the Apple iPhone. You just scatter as many of these things as you want around the house, plug in your appliances – lamps, fans, humidifiers, Christmas lights, stereos, etc. – and you can start commanding them all by voice, using Siri on your iPhone.

The perfect HomeKit demonstration

Apple has already revealed what HomeKit is and does, but none of the promotional videos released so far have been able to capture its true convenience like the one published by iDevices this week (embedded below).

“Introducing the iDevices Switch, the world's first HomeKit certified connected plug,” says the company. “Manage your home from wherever you are using the iDevices Connected app and your iDevices Switch. Use Siri voice commands to control your home or set schedules based on your daily routines.”

iDevices Connected app

Using the yet-to-be-updated iDevices Connected app customers will be able to create their own Events and Schedules. Custom events can be enabled to fit everyone’s individual lifestyle, while the iDevices Switch can remember these events and make them happen even when you’re not home.

iDevices Switch has a customizable nightlight that can be tweaked to match the look and feel of a given room. According to its creators, it has unlimited color combinations. This is also (likely) changed using sliders and knobs in the free Connected app.

The firm is currently demoing iDevices Switch at CES 2015, and promises to ship the product in the first half of the year.
