The Porn Industry Says Yes to HD-DVD

Las Vegas is well known for a lot of things but among its best are gambling and adult entertainment. Ok, in 2007 there's CES too, but that won't happen every year. And by a strange coincidence (or was it more?), the adult industry held its annual gathering in Las Vegas in the exact same period with CES. Motive for which there was a lot of cross-talk regarding IT and porn.

In case you were wondering what one has got to do with the other, the answer is pretty simple. It's about the HD format war of course. And according to various sources in the adult entertainment, the HD-DVD may have already won. The situation seems to be rather similar to the Betamax vs. VHS battle that took place back in the 70's. And - as some of you may remember - the adult content played a major role in the mass adoption of the VHS format over the higher-priced Betamax.

Among the participants at the annual meeting held recently, there were many who said that there is no doubt regarding the winner of the HD wars. HD-DVD will be the supported format and that's pretty clear. And this conclusion seems to have a lot to do with the fact that, generally speaking, Blu-Ray technology is more expensive.

"Blu-ray has superior quality, yes, but HD DVD is easier to produce, cheaper to produce and there are more HD DVD players in homes than there are Blu-ray players, for example in the Xbox 360," said a representative of porn studio Bangbros.

Sources related to Pink Visual had several complaints regarding the fact that Blu-ray discs cannot be multiplied on low cost machines and, as a result, the costs of large scale Blu-Ray disks manufacturing cancels any form of profit. Other small brands also stated: "Only bigger studios can afford Blu-ray, and even then it's not economical."
