The title “Police Academy” might sound strangely unfamiliar to people who didn't grow up in the ‘80s and ‘90s, but the fact of the matter is that many generations grew up with the many installments of the slapstick comedy.

Well, good news for fans of the series then. Variety reports that New Line Cinema is looking to partner up with Comedy Central stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peel to produce a remake of the movies.

The best news is that Paul Maslansky, the man who produced the first seven films, has been taped to participate on this one too, also as a producer. However, Scott Zabielski, the man who was initially supposed to direct the new film is now said to be no longer involved.

Maslanski proudly said about the new project, “It's going to be very worthwhile to the people who remember it and to those who saw it on TV. It's going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It'll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we'll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme.”

At this point, it's unclear if Key and Peele will also star in the film.
